Audio-Video Technology & Film (AVTF)* (IB)
In this program, students will learn the basics of broadcast and film production. This foundation will prepare them to pursue entry-level employment in the media industries or admission into a post-secondary education program for further study. The AVTF Pathway teaches students relevant terminology, safety, camera basics, script writing, editing and so much more. However, the greatest takeaway from the program will be the concepts of teamwork and storytelling.
The great thing about this class is that it doesn’t matter what you want to do for a living. Maybe you want to make movies, music videos or gaming videos. Maybe you want to be a television news anchor or a doctor. It doesn’t matter. The skills you learn in this class will prepare you to be a better communicator, whatever career path you decide to take.
We cannot teach you everything about production. Why? Because we don’t know everything. And that’s the great thing … we learn together. But what we can do is give you the foundation that you need to get started and that’s where every great adventure begins.
The AVTF industries are hard to get into, but this Industry Certified (as of June 2018) program, along with the networking opportunities provided here will give you the chance to get your foot in the door. We aren’t giving you a guarantee of success in life, but we will give you the preparation you need to be successful … if you want to be.
In your time in this class you will produce short films, music videos and news stories, and you’ll also have the chance to be a part of the “Blue Devil News” legacy. Use all of these to submit to various competitions and create a portfolio of your outstanding work!
*The Audio-Video Technology & Film (AVTF) program is "industry certified" by the Media Education Foundation of Georgia (MEFGA). An "industry certified" program has received a "stamp of excellence," which represents the apex of program quality. Only those programs that have successfully undergone rigorous reviews by leaders from business and industry are recognized with this distinction.

Graphic Communications (Production)* (IB)
Graphic Communications (Production) is a catch-all term for all the industries involved in reproducing an image. The image, whether it be a word, photograph or illustration can be reproduced on paper, cloth, metal, glass, plastic or a variety of other materials so that the message can be widely seen.
Graphic Communications (Production) is a multi-faceted industry with a wide range of career opportunities. This highly technical industry employs men and women working as chemists, engineers, computer programmers, writers and editors, designers, marketing specialists, researchers, press operators, technicians, salespeople, managers, photographers and bindery workers, as well as a variety of other positions. Many, but not all of these occupations require a college degree.
Joining the graphic communications industry is a wise career choice for high school graduates. The exact size of the industry is hard to determine because of the wide variety of companies involved. However, the number of printing and publishing companies probably ranks second to restaurants in total establishments. The industry includes small, medium and large businesses in both small towns and large metropolitan areas.
*The Graphic Communications (Production) program is "industry certified" by PrintED, administered by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF®). An "industry certified" program has received a "stamp of excellence," which represents the apex of program quality. Only those programs that have successfully undergone rigorous reviews by leaders from business and industry are recognized with this distinction.
*Students in this pathway have the opportunity to sit for the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) exam in Graphic Design & Illustration using Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator software is the industry’s premier vector-drawing environment for creating scalable graphics. Digital media gurus bring their unique vision to life with shapes, color, effects, and typography by using a host of powerful functions to make fast work of their most complex designs.
